Things That Make You Go Hmmm

It’s been a good long while since I did a post where I myself took a look at some data. The reason being is that I lost some of my biggest data files from GISS (the data for each years anomaly maps starting at 1880 and going through 2009) and have been slowing rebuilding m database. While this was going on I had a thought that I would like to go back and check some things that Dr. Christy from UAH had brought up in a couple of video presentations. Basically what it dealt with is the San Joaquin Valley in California and how land use change and not CO2 is responsible for the rise in temperatures there. First the San Joaquin valley is the southern half of the California Central Valley with the Sacramento Valley being the northern one and it is where Dr. Christy grew up and he knows how irrigation had changed the valley. What he found was that Tmax (or Daytime temp) for both the irrigated Valley area and the still desert area in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mts. to the east of the Valley have the same trend, while the Tmin (night time temps) diverge with the valley Tmins rising and the Foothills not. This went against what the CO2 based AGW theory stated should have happened and the Tmin divergence increased each year as more and more irrigation turned more desert in the Valley into Farmland. You can see the video presentations here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WWpH0lmcxA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcGgLoPpbBw

The first link is to a lecture he gave at Auburn University and it lasts 1hr 5 mins, the second link is from a debate between Dr. Christy and Dr. Gavin Schmidt from NASA/GISS at Auburn University and is about 21  36 mins long.

The paper that has the information, methodology and data sources is Christy et al 2006 and can be read online in PDF format:

http://www.openmarket.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/2006_christynrg_ca.pdf

Now what I’m going to do here is a lot simpler then what Dr. Christy and his team did. They went through hundreds of paper copies of CO-OP stations in the area listed in the paper for their work. They also broke everything down by seasons for each trend. What I wanted to do was see if there was a quick way to see if some recent changes affected the overall findings of this paper. What I wanted was to use paired valley/sierra stations in the USHCN database and see what if any effect the new method that Dr. Menne at NCDC came up with from his work on a non Qced 43% Surfacestations.org database to make adjustments and to extend it out from 2003 to 2009 if possible.

First thing I found there is only 2 paired stations in both the Christy 2006 paper and in USHCN: Merced/Yosemite Valley and Hanford/Lemon Cove. You can get the data for yourself at this link:

http://cdiac.ornl.gov/epubs/ndp/ushcn/ushcn_map_interface.html

The rest of the stations are not in the USHCN database but as you will see when I get to the graphs these stations are used to infill missing raw data in the stations that are in the database. Example for Hanford there is years where there is no raw data in the raw data field, but those same years have data in the adjusted data field. USHCN uses nearby CO-OP and NWS first order stations to infill missing data as part of their adjustment process and those stations themselves do not have to be in USHCN.

Then to make things even more fun besides using the “Raw” and USHCN adjusted data from NCDC I am getting the adjusted from GISS as well and lets see how it all shakes out. The reason to add the GISS adjusted to this is that GISS also has seasonal means and if all 3 metrics are in close enough agreement on the annual mean I might be able to do a more in depth look using Seasonal means from GISS.

So I decided to start with the Hanford/Lemon Cove pair which can be seen in the Google Earth image below to show how close together they are (note notice that irrigation and farmland now seems to have reached out to Lemon Cove)

Now the  first thing that I had to do was import the adjusted and raw temperatures from USHCN into a spreadsheet. These temperatures are in Fahrenheit. From there I made anomalies based on the Baseline of 1951-80. Then I imported in the adjusted Annual means from GISS, however unlike USHCN these temperatures are in Celsius. So I first had to convert those temperatures into Fahrenheit and then compute the anomalies on the same Baseline.

So lets take a look at the Hanford annual mean temperature anomalies in Figure 1

Figure 1

Now as shown the USHCN and GISS trends are very close at almost .7° to .8° Fahrenheit increase over the last 108 years. The USHCN Raw shows a trend of about .4° Fahrenheit increase over the same time period. So the adjustments, even though they double the trend, is not much of an increase over the Raw and all are showing an increase.

NOTE: I couldn’t take the data all the way out to 2009 because GISS only has data up till 2008 so the rest of the graphs will only go that far as well.

Here in Figure 2 we will look at the annual mean temperature anomalies for Lemon Cove

Figure 2

Now in this graph you again see that the USHCN and GISS adjusted trends are very close at almost 1.5° Fahrenheit increase over the last 108 years. However unlike Hanford both adjusted trends are not even close to the USHCN Raw Trend, matter of fact the Raw shows a very slight decrease but is essentially flat over that time period. That much of a change is a big red flag and makes you wonder since Dr. Christy did his research using the Raw data from the paper copies. One thing this does is shoot the idea of using the GISS seasonal adjusted data for an in-depth look. However with that said it opens a new question: How is it that you only get a slight increase via adjustments for the dataset that already shows a very noticeable up trend, but in a dataset that is for all intents and purposes is a flat trend they somehow find a whopping 1.5° worth of adjustments to get a warming trend?

So lets take a look at the Tmax and Tmin both adjusted and Raw for both locations.

Lets take a look at Tmax in Figure 3

Figure 3

Now isn’t that interesting. First the Tmax Raw trend for Hanford is -2.5° F but after adjustment the Tmax trend is 1° F. That is a huge shift of not just direction but of 3.5°. Lemon Cove is the same just not as bad. The Raw Trend is -1° F, while the adjusted is .75° F which gives a shift of 1.75° and from a cooling trend to warming one.

Next it’s on to the Tmin in Figure 4

Figure 4

Now on this graph you see that the adjustments for the Hanford Tmin go from a Raw trend of 3° F to an Adjusted trend of about .45° F. For Lemon Cove you see adjustments for Tmin go from a Raw trend of about 1° F to an Adjusted trend of almost 2.25° F.

The adjustments for the Valley station (Hanford) and the Sierra station (Lemon Cove) ends up giving you the exact opposite results of what Dr. Christy found in his 2006 paper that used data up to 2003. In the Tmax Raw you see that the Valley station and the Sierra station both have very similar trends and both are not getting warmer just as Dr. Christy concluded in his paper, but the adjustments made by NCDC gives both a warming trend. In the Tmin the adjustments are even more egregious. The Valley station had a very significant warming trend in the Raw just as Dr. Christy found now it has been adjusted to be almost flat, while the Sierra station had a modest warming trend amplified to almost the same level as the Valley station’s Raw Tmin trend. Thus the adjustments and the adjustments only is the reason I have seen so far that cause the findings in Christy et al 2006 to not be only wrong but backwards. In Dr. Christy’s paper he states that the Valley’s Tmin has been warming at a rate much faster then the Sierra Tmin, while both Valley and Sierra’s Tmax showed no warming. Now I realize this is only on pair of stations but there is only one more pair in USHCN to check to see if the same thing happened in that pairs adjustments. That will be the next one I look at and if I find the same thing with that pair it will be time to start looking up paper copies online and see what they say for the other stations (hopefully there is more pairs that reach 2008 in there).

The Excommunication of Dr. Curry

The Chuch of CAGW has begun it’s Inquistion and it has found it’s first victim

Dr. Judith Curry is now being attacked and excommunicated from the Church of CAGW all because she said people should read a book.

I am not making this up that is the position the lesser priests in the Church after Dr. Curry ran afoul of a couple of the High Priests of the Church on their website RealClimate. Who was it she ran afoul of? Gavin Schmidt for having the termidity to dispute some of the claims made in the review of the book “The HockeyStick Illusion” by the Church of CAGW’s water boy Tamino aka Grant Foster and that people should read the book itself. This also got her afoul of  Michael “Upside Down with a 180° twist” Mann who invented the Church’s Holy Object the Hockeystick Graph.

Now Dr. Curry is not someone that doesn’t believe in Radiative Physics or that Man Made CO2 is playing apart in the world warming. Matter of fact she would be to most Skeptics considered a luke warmer at best, but for the most part considered a warmer but not an Alarmist. As shown peviously in this blog and in a linked aticle from WUWT Dr. Curry has not been in our ranks, but we will gladly welcome her into our ranks of so called “deniers”  by the Alamists after this. I will not give links to the blogs run by these lesser priests (William Connellys Stoat or Tim Flannery’s Deltoid), you can look them up yourself if you want to see the ugly truth of these people.

For anyone that knows anything about the history of the Catholic Church during the time of the Inquistion know the Catholic Church Banned reading certain books and they continued this practice all the way up to 1966:

The Index Librorum Prohibitorum (“List of Prohibited Books”) was a list of publications prohibited by the Catholic Church. The final (20th) edition appeared in 1948, and it was formally abolished on 14 June 1966 by Pope Paul VI.[1][2]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_librorum_prohibitorum

And what was some of the books the chuch banned?:

The avowed aim of the list was to protect the faith and morals of the faithful by preventing the reading of immoral books or works containing theological errors. Books thought to contain such errors included some scientific works by leading astronomers such as Johannes Kepler‘s Epitome astronomiae Copernicianae, which was on the Index from 1621 to 1835.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_librorum_prohibitorum

And what was the punishment? Well just look at what happened to Giordano Bruno for believing and writing about the plurality of worlds, he was burned at the stake by the Inquisition

In particular Bruno held firm to his belief in the plurality of worlds, although he was admonished to abandon it. His trial was overseen by the Inquisitor Cardinal Bellarmine, who demanded a full recantation, which Bruno eventually refused. Instead he appealed in vain to Pope Clement VIII, hoping to save his life through a partial recantation. The Pope expressed himself in favor of a guilty verdict. Consequently, Bruno was declared a heretic, and told he would be handed over to secular authorities. According to the correspondence of one Gaspar Schopp of Breslau, he is said to have made a threatening gesture towards his judges and to have replied:“Maiori forsan cum timore sententiam in me fertis quam ego accipiam (Perhaps you pronounce this sentence against me with greater fear than I receive it).”[16] He was quickly turned over to the secular authorities and, on February 17, 1600 in the Campo de’ Fiori, a central Roman market square, “his tongue imprisoned because of his wicked words” he was burned at the stake.[17] His ashes were dumped into the Tiber river. All Bruno’s works were placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum in 1603.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giordano_Bruno

So more and more the Alamists and the Enviromentalists show themselves as nothing more then another reglion, one that is following in the footsteps of the Catholic Church. Take Carbon Cedits as an example, you buy them from someone else so that you can emit more CO2. Doesn’t that sound awfully like the old Indulgences the Catholic Church sold, so that you could just buy your way out and just keep on sinning as long as the money held out?

The later Middle Ages saw the growth of considerable abuses, such as the unrestricted sale of indulgences by professional “pardoners”[4] (quaestores in Latin), who were sent to collect contributions to the project. In many cases the preaching of these, out of ignorance or shrewdness, went far beyond dogmatic teachings; some of them even dared to promise that the damned would be released from hell. Permission began to be granted to Catholic kings and princes, particularly on the occasion of Crusades, to retain for themselves a rather considerable part of the alms collected for the gaining of indulgences. The most well-known and debated question is the indulgence granted for building the new St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.[31]

The Fourth Lateran Council (1215) suppressed some abuses connected with indulgences, spelling out, for example, that only a one-year indulgence would be granted for the consecration of churches and no more than a 40-days indulgence for other occasions. The Council also stated that “Catholics who have girded themselves with the cross for the extermination of the heretics, shall enjoy the indulgences and privileges granted to those who go in defense of the Holy Land.”[34]

But very soon these limits were widely exceeded. False documents were circulated with indulgences surpassing all bounds: indulgences of hundreds or even thousands of years.[31] In 1392, more than a century before Martin Luther published the 95 Theses, Pope Boniface IX wrote to the Bishop of Ferrara condemning the practice of certain members of religious orders who falsely claimed that they were authorized by the pope to forgive all sorts of sins, and exacted money from the simple-minded among the faithful by promising them perpetual happiness in this world and eternal glory in the next.[35]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indulgences

So what is next fo the Alamists and their Church of CAGW? Will their Inquistion call for burning at the stake next? But in the mean time welcome to the world of the sane Dr. Curry, welcome to the world of the “denialist” as the Alarmists call us because we want to read a book, look at the evidence and make up our own minds.

The UK Met Office And It’s Erroneous Indicators

Not too long ago NOAA and the UK Met office came out with their 2009 State of the Climate Report which you can dowload are read here:

High Resolution:http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/cmb/bams-sotc/climate-assessment-2009-hi-rez.pdf

Low Resolution:http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/cmb/bams-sotc/climate-assessment-2009-lo-rez.pdf

From that report the UK Met office makes their case based on what they call 10 leading indicators which is conviently listed by the UK Met Office on their site:

Indicators

Increasing indicators.Seven indicators are rising and three are declining

Rising indicators

  1. Air temperature over land
  2. Sea-surface temperature
  3. Marine air temperature
  4. Sea-level
  5. Ocean heat
  6. Humidity
  7. Tropospheric temperature in the ‘active-weather’ layer of the atmosphere closest to the Earth’s surface

Declining indicators

  1. Arctic sea-ice
  2. Glaciers
  3. Spring snow cover in the northern hemisphere

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/2010/pr20100728.html

To which I say Oh Really? Lets test those claims.

Now what is interesting is not that the world warmed in 2009 as any sceptic will tell you. what is interesting is how the State of the Climate report plainly states  NATURAL phenomenoms known as El Nino and the PDO was responsible for the increase in world temperatures that year.

The year was characterized by a transition from a waning La Niña to a strengthening El Niño, which first developed in June. By December, SSTs were more than 2.0°C above average over large parts of the central and eastern equatorial Pacific. Eastward surface current anomalies, associated with the El Niño, were strong across the equatorial Pacific, reaching values similar to the 2002 El Niño during November and December 2009. The transition from La Niña to El Niño strongly influenced anomalies in many climate conditions, ranging from reduced Atlantic basin hurricane activity to large scale surface and tropospheric warmth.

Aside from the El Niño development in the tropical Pacific and warming in the tropical Indian Ocean, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) transitioned to a positive phase during the fall/winter 2009. Ocean heat fluxes contributed to SST anomalies in some regions (e.g., in the North Atlantic and tropical Indian Oceans) while dampening existing SST anomalies in other regions (e.g., the tropical and extratropical Pacific).

Keep this in mind even though they call the report “State of the Climate” it is to me misleading since it is more “State of the Weather” more then anything else since they make one each year. Yes they look at long term trends but as shown in the quotes above they deal heavily with what is differences from year to year.Another interesting thing is what is missing from the UK Met Office page dealing with this report:

Scientific evidence that our world is warming is unmistakable has been released today in the ‘2009 State of the Climate’ report, issued by US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The report draws on data from 10 key climate indicators that all point to that same finding — the world is warming.

The 10 indicators of temperature have been compiled by the Met Office Hadley Centre, drawing on the work of more than 100 scientists from more than 20 institutions. They provide, in a one place, a snapshot of our world and spell out a single conclusion that the climate is unequivocally warming.

Relying on data from multiple sources, each indicator proved consistent with a warming world

Now did you notice what was missing from that statement?

Well if you didn’t here it is: The words Anthropogenic or Man-Caused in front of the terms warming world. Thats right they left those words out, I wonder why? Maybe because as I pointed out above the rise in temperatures was due to a NATURAL phenomenom and they can only try to infer man as the cause, since if they stated that the rise in temperatures in 2009 was due to man they know that lie would be quickly exposed by using their own quote from their own report.

Another thing that is interesting is that they are using this report as being up to date when already the information used to make it is absurdly out of date, but notice they don’t tell the media that. Oh no they let them run around shouting from the roof tops that the Sea Surface Temperatures are rising, when in actuality they have been falling for the last few months as we start to enter a La Nina. You can even check it yourself just go here to the UAH Vortex site that I have listed on the Blog roll to the right. Once you get to that site look in the lower left hand corner for the “Show Global Average Temperature At” drop down menu and open it, then select Sea Surface. Once that happens a Graph will pop up showing the SST’s for 2008, 2009 and 2010. In that graph you will see that SST’s have been falling since March of 2010.

Want more evidence visit Bob Tisdale’s blog, for he shows the graphs from just about every major climate center including NOAA and Hadley:
http://bobtisdale.blogspot.com/

MONTHLY OVERVIEW

Monthly NINO3.4 SST anomalies have reached the threshold of a La Niña, which is -0.5 deg C. The central tropical Pacific (Monthly NINO3.4) SST Anomaly is -0.5 deg C, while weekly data has fallen well into La Niña ranges (-0.62 deg C).

Global SST anomalies have hesitated this month in their decline, but a glimpse at the weekly global data I posted last week reveals that the decline will continue next month. Refer to PRELIMINARY June 2010 SST Anomaly Update . The reason global SST anomalies stalled in their response to the drop in NINO3.4 SST anomalies is the decline in the Southern Hemisphere (-0.031 deg C) was less than the rise in the Northern Hemisphere (+0.049 deg C). Both the North Atlantic and North Pacific SST anomalies rose, with the larger rise in the North Pacific.
http://bobtisdale.blogspot.com/2010/07/june-2010-sst-anomaly-update.html

So what does that mean for the indicators listed? Well it already shows that the “Rising SST’s” indicator is not rising so their report is out of date, but remember they even admit that the El Nino is what caused the Land, Marine air and Lower Troposphere Temps to rise so what do you think a decline in SST’s will do to those indicators?

At this pace of cooling, I suspect that the second half of 2010 could ruin the chances of getting a record high global temperature for this year. Oh, darn.

 by Dr. Roy Spencer:http://www.drroyspencer.com/2010/06/global-average-sea-surface-temperatures-continue-their-plunge/

That’s right with 70% of the earths surface cooling down the land, marine air and lower troposphere will follow behind and you can see this in the UAH temperature anomalies (Which is based on Channel 5 of the NASA Aqua satellite and in the new NOAA 18 satellite) which are measurements of the lower troposhere:

http://www.drroyspencer.com/2010/07/june-2010-uah-global-temperature-update-0-44-deg-c/

So that knocks out three more indicators as being out of date since they are no longer rising (warming) but falling (cooling). So we are now down to just 3 rising indicators left: Sea Level Rise, Ocean Heat and Humidity.

Ocean Heat: If the SST’s are falling that means the Oceans are losing heat not gaining so that one is gone.

Humidity: Now this is a tougher question but with lower temperatures you would expect less water to be evaporated but wind also plays a factor as does cloud cover.

Sea Level Rise: This also has more then one source, but one reason for the 1″ per decade (that’s right ONE INCH PER DECADE going from 2000 to the end of the graph)

17:00 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcGgLoPpbBw

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/cmb/bams-sotc/climate-assessment-2009-hi-rez.pdf

is from thermal expansion. This is not something new, when you heat water up it expands, this is what happens if you put too much water into a pot then set the temperature to High on the burner. As the temperature rises the water overflows the pot. Now logically if the water in the oceans start to cool they will go in the other direction so you should see some contraction. Will this be enough to get sea level to fall? My estimate is no, because the seas have been expanding since the end of the Little Ice Age at least and we will not drop SST’s to that level this year. However you should see a decline in the rate of Sea Level Rise. Now before you scream Glacial Melt or more foolishly Arctic Ice melt stop and think for a second. First most Glaciers that are melting are far inland and most of that water does not make it to the sea or ocean, and the majority of the ones that do sit near the ocean are in Greenland which has a unique feature. You see the Greenland Glaciers sit in a large bowl shaped indentation in the earth. What does that mean? Think of it as big bowl of Ice Cream that you leave sitting out. Any Ice Cream that touches the rim of the bowl or hangs over it when it melts will fall outside/run down the side of the bowl, the rest sits in the bottom of the bowl and goes nowhere. That is the thing about Greenland Glacier melt, the vast majority of any melt never reaches the ocean. So another strike against the OMG the melting glaciers will cause catastrophic sea level rise. As to Artic Ice melt causing sea level rise,  a 3rd grader can refute that one. It’s the reason melting ice cubes in glasses of water do not cause the water level to rise as they melt. Now on the other end of the globe is a different story. Antarctica is land that has many tons of ice sitting on top of it, if it ever all melted then the world would seriously be in trouble. The problem being for the warmer’s cause is that Antartic Ice is increasing not melting:

http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.anomaly.antarctic.png

So instead of contributing to sea level rise it would be in the other direction, since any preciptation that falls on the continent stays there in the form of snow and ice instead of falling into the ocean and melting.

Which neatly brings us to the three declining indicators of Glaciers, Artic Ice and Spring Snow cover in the NH.

First lets talk about the Glaciers. I touch on some aspects earlier but here is more information on them:

Not all Glaciers are melting as shown by the “2035” Himalayan IPCC Fiasco. Of the ones being monitored (not all are) some are melting (retreating) while others are doing nothing and the rest are advancing (getting bigger). Here is another little tidbit, did you know a new Glacier formed in the 1980’s on Mt. St. Helens sitting right next to the Volcanic Caldera? Yep while the temps rose during the 80’s and all the Glaciers were suppose to be melting one formed in the shadow of the south rim of the crater. That Glacier is almost gone now but not due to AGW but due to the volcano and it is not the heat from the volcano either, at least not directly. You see what happend as more magma entered the chamber just below the surface it caused the ground to start swelling. As the swelling got bigger it started to physically push the glacier out of the crater. Since it no longer sat in the shadow of the rim on the south side but exposed on the north side it started disapearing. Found that out from the Park Service when I visited Johnston Observatory this year on vacation.

Now what does that have to do with other glaciers? Plenty! You see it shows that just straight air temperature isn’t the only factor that determines if a glacier melts or not. As in the case of Mt. St. Helens that was exposure to direct sunlight: without it, it grew with it, it melted.  Another factor is Precipitation and that is what is causing the glacier on Mt. Kilamajoro to melt as Dr. Christy found out when he studied the problem.

18:06 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcGgLoPpbBw

You see there has been no “warming” of the air temperatures around Mt. Kilamajoro, nor has there been a change in the physical layout of the mountain to cause a change in direct sunlight. What they did find is that as the years have been rolling along is that there has been a steady decrease in the amount of precipitation on Mt. Kilamajoro. You see all glaciers go through seasonal melt and glaciation cycles every year: In summer they melt, in winter they grow. What makes a Glacier advance and retreat is the ratio between the two: More melt that cycle the glacier retreats and if there is more glaciation the glacier advances.

So what does that mean? Simple really: Just because glacier’s are melting and there has been a rise in temperatures, it doesn’t mean that the rise in temperatures are causing the glaciers to melt. You need to look at each individual glacier to see if “Global Warming” is causing it to retreat as the examples of Mt. St. Helens and Kilamajoro shows us. Correalation does not equal Causation.

Artic Ice melt: Couple of problems with this one.

First is the fact that the big dip in Arctic Ice Extent was not caused by temperatures in the Arctic it was caused by wind:

A new NASA-led study found a 23-percent loss in the extent of the Arctic’s thick, year-round sea ice cover during the past two winters. This drastic reduction of perennial winter sea ice is the primary cause of this summer’s fastest-ever sea ice retreat on record and subsequent smallest-ever extent of total Arctic coverage.

A team led by Son Nghiem of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., studied trends in Arctic perennial ice cover by combining data from NASA’s Quick Scatterometer (QuikScat) satellite with a computing model based on observations of sea ice drift from the International Arctic Buoy Programme. QuikScat can identify and map different classes of sea ice, including older, thicker perennial ice and younger, thinner seasonal ice.

Nghiem said the rapid decline in winter perennial ice the past two years was caused by unusual winds. “Unusual atmospheric conditions set up wind patterns that compressed the sea ice, loaded it into the Transpolar Drift Stream and then sped its flow out of the Arctic,” he said. When that sea ice reached lower latitudes, it rapidly melted in the warmer waters.

“The winds causing this trend in ice reduction were set up by an unusual pattern of atmospheric pressure that began at the beginning of this century,” Nghiem said.
http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingatearth/quikscat-20071001.html

Notice that they state that the winds were due to pressure not temperature and that the ice that did melt, did it far away from the Arctic in waters that were much warmer. So Arctic temperatures didn’t cause the big drop in ice cover and even more bad news for this indicator is that the Artic ice extent has been increasing ever since that time:

So we had wind driven drops in Sea Ice Extent for the years 2006 and 2007 and the past 2 years the Sea Ice Extent has been RISING not decreasing. Thats 4 years where temeperature changes in the Arctic are known not to be causing the Alarmist claim that the Arctic is melting due to AGW.  So much for that claim in the list.

Which leaves us with the last and most pitiful claim in the entire list: NH Spring Snow cover. I thought we were talking about GLOBAL indicators to show the ENITRE WORLD is warming. Now the last time I looked the NH is not the entire planet, did we somehow lose the entire Southern Hemisphere? I know in an oil company funded plot Anthony Watts and his band of merry men from Watt’s Up With That stole the Southern Hemisphere and hid it so the people doing the report couldn’t study it. Now just excluding half of the Globe is bad enough but come on you just studied the Snow Cover for one quarter of the year. What did Mr. Watts also make off with the Northern Hemispehere the other 9 months out of the year? Do you know that snow falls in the Northern Hemisphere year round? So is the Snow Cover the other 9 months going up or down in the Northern Hemisphere? How about the bottom half of the Globe?

This has go to be one of the stupidest indicators to use to prove the GLOBE is warming. Really is it that hard to see that studing half the globe for only one quarter of the year isn’t going to tell you crap about what the ENTIRE world is doing YEAR ROUND. Well as Ron White said “you can’t fix stupid”, and maybe that is why the Alarmist can’t figure that out.

So lets Recap the list of indicators: For the ones stated as rising most of them is shot to hell because the data is out of date, so running around you got proof the world is warming while SST and lower troposhere temps are falling is stupid. The only one that will still be rising is sea level but as Dr. Christy has said if you can handle the 20ft sea level rise from a hurricane why are you alarmed over a 1″ rise over a decade?

For the declining indicators two of them are shown to not be 100% dependent on air temperatures and that one of those has been on the increase since 2007. The last indicator of studing half the globe for a quarter of a year to show as proof of GLOBAL warming is laughable at best. These are the same people that run around and say the Medeval Warm Period is not global because the evidence for it is found in the Northern Hemisphere and in local regions only (which is a false statement there is plenty of peer reviewed studies that show the MWP in both Hemispheres http://www.co2science.org/data/mwp/mwpp.php), but want us to believe that a  even more limited study (a fraction of the time compared to the MWP and in NH only) is evidence of Global Warming. Can anyone say HYPOCRITE? I knew you could, for at a minimum that is what they are. If they persist on using that metric it blows their objection to the MWP out of the water.

So in the end the big headlines from NOAA and the UK Met office about their indicators is shown to be not that big of news at all, since  the state of the indicators is out of date in most cases and completely erroneous in others

From The Hypocrisy Department: Part Deux!

As most know by now the Obama Administration has sued the state of Arizona over their state law that calls for state and local law enforcement officials to check for immigration status under certain conditions:

  1. The person/persons involved must have been stopped for another criminal or civic violation, such as speeding, not wearing a seat belt, robbing a liquor store, raping a girl, kidnapping a person or murdering a rancher.
  2. The law enforcement official must still after that have a reasonable suspicion that the person might be in the state illegally.

Now everyone expected the Obama administration, in its naked grab for the illegal immigrant vote after they try to ram through amnesty legislation, to sue based on “Racial Profiling”.

However a funny thing happened on the way to the court room: It seems that once the professional lawyers got involved they explained, probably in words of one syllable, to the pretend lawyers such as Eric Holder that the Judge that heard the case would laugh them out of the court room since that argument was very weak. So instead of calling the whole thing off, the “Mensa’s” surrounding Obama and Holder came up with the bright idea that they could sue them on the grounds that by passing this law having state law enforcement enforcing the FEDERAL law dealing with illegal immigration it somehow interferes with the Fed’s ability to enforce the FEDERAL law, by actually pointing out illegal immigrants to the appropriate Federal agencies and actually enforcing the law thus causing the Federal Government to actually do its job of sending the criminals back to their country of origin. Oh for the libtards that might see this: every illegal immigrant is a criminal because being in the country illegally is a criminal act, that is why it’s illegal. There is no such thing as a law abiding illegal immigrant, they are breaking the law by just being in the country therefore they are not abiding by the law.

Now that hypocritical stupidity is bad enough but lets put it into full context. There is over 40 cities and counties in the US that are so called sanctuary cities as reported by the LA Times. These city and counties have passed laws that prohibit local law enforcement officials from reporting a person is illegal to the Feds. Now that is interfering with the ability of the Federal Government with enforcing the law and what those so called “sanctuary” cities are doing is illegal as per the law signed by President Clinton in 1996 as reported by the LA Times:

It says state and local agencies and their officials “may not prohibit or in any way restrict” their employees from “sending” information about a person’s immigration status to the agency then known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-immigration-sanctuary-20100725,0,7894293.story

Now how many of these sanctuary cities have been sued by the Feds? None! So you can blatantly break the law and obstruct the Feds from enforcing it and not get sued, but heaven help you should you make it easier to find illegals. Now that’s the height of hypocrisy and shows that this President has no interest in enforcing the law that he swore an oath to uphold. This combined with the dropping of the case that was won against the New Black Panther party just before sentencing shows that this President should either resign or be impeached and his Attorney General should be charged with corruption and misuse of office and tried.

Upside Down Mann Now Turns 180°

For those that don’t know a couple of years ago Dr. Michael Mann of Hockeystick fame used another scientist’s data and ended up with the nickname Upside Down Mann. The problem being was two fold:

1. The person that collected the samples said that they were useless for what Dr. Mann wanted to use them for due to man made disturbances of the lake bed

2. He used the Proxy data upside down. Negative became postive and positive became negative thus garning the title of Upside Down Mann.

Now it turns out that besides using Proxy data upside down he has went a step further: In his latest papers dealing with Puesdo Proxies and RegEM he transposed the Western Hemisphere and the Eastern Hemispere. In other words he has added a 180° twist.

That is just one of the basic errors found by Dr. Jason Smerdon in his new paper in the Journal of Climate:

Erroneous Model Field Representations in

Multiple Pseudoproxy Studies: Corrections and Implications

Turns out Mann et al 2005, Mann et al 2007a and Mann et al 2007b might be nothing more then crap all because Dr. Mann can’t figure out with hemisphere is which, once again showing that Dr. Mann is nothing more then an incompetent hack IMO. With the basic statistical mistakes in MBH 98 and 99 you could forgive, you could even forgive his flipping of the varve data as a one off, but now you got this basic mistake. This is a pattern that shows sloppiness in not just methology but in thought process. In most other fields of endevor when you make this many basic mistakes continously you get shown the door, not lauded as someone tops in theit field. I wonder if the results of those studies would have been so favorable to the Teams postion if it was done the correct way? And what if it doesn’t? What if it comes out the complete opposite? That calls into question of was it a true mistake in the first place, not just this time but all the other times or was it deliberate to get a certain result.  That would lend more credence to the position that theTteam takes data that doesn’t fit the CAGW narrative and mangles it until it does fit.

So now we need to change his name from Dr. Michael “Upside Down” Mann to Dr. Michael “Upside Down” Mann with a half twist.

Thsis just in the Russia judge has given the “good” Doctor a 2.5, says he made to big of a splash and his form sucks.

Lazlo Zalzac

So who is Lazlo Zalzac? He is one of the best free online writers out there.

How do I come to this conclusion? While not very scientific you can check for yourselves at a place called Stories Online or as it’s better known SOL. After getting your free registration out of the way and logging in  yoou will notice a few things, the most prominent in my mind is that there is a lot of stories here. SOL has a very large archive of older stories and while you can guess that most of them are less then stellar, there is still a large selection of very good stories. The next thing you will notice is that most authors, but mot all, turn on what is called voting. Most stories would be lucky to consistantly break a 5 rating out of 10. This author doesn’t have one below a 7 in allof his 36 stories posted. Also if you look at SOL’s TOP 20 Classic Long Stories this author has 5 on the list.

From his Happy Harry Last of the Hoboes to his John Carter stories, his humor based fantasy/scifi stories such as “Magic” and “The Quatyl”, to his romance/life lesson stories such as “The Millionare Next Door”  you will quickly come fall in love with his characters.

His Happy Harry/John Carter stories are basically to me stories of sacrifice for the greater good.

Magic and The Quatly spoof every Scifi and fantasy story/film in existance and will have you laughing for hours

The Millionare Next Door is IMHO his best story and it shows what you can achieve with hard work, some good friends and what really makes you a millionare.

A word of warning: SOL does have a lot of erotic/sex based stories and yes some of Lazlo’s stories also use elements in them, but Lazlo’s stories are not centered on sex. The closest he comes is in the spoof story Magic were he basically spoofs every other sex story with innuendo of sex.

Here is the link to SOL: http://storiesonline.net/home.php

This is the link to Lazlo’s page once you register: http://storiesonline.net/auth/Lazlo_Zalezac

I’ll finish this post with some of Lazlo’s descriptions of his stories.

The Millionare Next Door:

If happiness was measured in money there would be very few millionaires. This is a story about Dan Parker, a young man who starts his life as an adult with the odds stacked against him. Follow his journey of self discovery as he tries to achieve happiness. His story might make you wonder if you live next door to a millionaire.

The Quatyl:

The Quatyl are small and cute. With their short stubby legs, very soft fur, and small mouths they are basically defenseless. Did I mention that they are cute? They are very cute. They are also the most feared space faring race in the galaxy because they can telepathically control every species they’ve ever encountered. Oh, by the way, they just discovered the Earth.

Magic:

Science is killing magic. The last of the magical beings decide that it is time for the return of a Merlin-like person to bring back the magic. The job requirements are: he’s got to be an unlikely hero type that is lucky; he’s got to own silver and be willing to trade it for a gift of magic; and he’s got to be a horny guy with a bad fashion sense.

Journolist Listserv: A Conspiracy? By Definition Yes

Back last November we had Climategate with the release of the CRU emails, now we have the Journolist scandal really starting to pick up steam from the release of emails from that now defunct listserv. One thing that is happening now that also happened back then is that a lot of people keep shying away from the most complete definition of what is revealed by both sets of emails, and that word is CONSPIRACY.

Now the reason that people shy away from it, is because of some misconceptions attached to the word: Conspiracies are the realm of kooks, they really don’t happen and so forth. Well folks if you believe that you are so wrong it’s not even funny. You see the biggest mistake people make is that they equate the word CONSPIRACY with CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY. That’s right they are not one in the same, it’s like rectangles and squares: While every square is a rectangle, not all rectangles are squares. It is the same with conspiracies: While all Criminal Conspiracies are conspiracies, not all conspiracies are criminal conspiracies.

First lets check the definition of the word conspire:

con·spire   /kənˈspaɪər/[kuhn-spahyuhr] verb, -spired, -spir·ing.

–verb (used without object)

1. to agree together, esp. secretly, to do something wrong, evil, or illegal: They conspired to kill the king.

2. to act or work together toward the same result or goal.

–verb (used with object)

3. to plot (something wrong, evil, or illegal).

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/conspire

Now right there in the first definition it tells you that all it takes is to agree together(also it doesn’t require what you agree with to be illegal) and the second to act or work together toward the same result or goal.

To show this in an example you have a bunch of 9 and 10 year olds playing football in a field near Mrs. Jones house. Mrs. Jones is not home and not one of those children are one of hers (shes 70!). While playing, the football goes awry and knocks over one of Mrs. Jones’ planters, breaking it. The kids quickly run and retrieve the ball and do what comes naturally at that age: They check to see if anyone saw them do it. They see no evidence that anyone saw them so they dash 3 doors down the block to little Timmy’s house and hide behind the shed. There the boy that is the “leader” says “Say nothing about this if your parents ask, you don’t know how it happened.” Then they go on and finish playing.

Guess what people you just seen the formation of a conspiracy. The kids all agree together and will act together to keep the truth about how Mrs. Jones’ planter got broken. Notice they are plotting to cover up their own wrong doing meeting all 3 definitions for the word CONSPIRE.

So just like those boys the so called reporters of the Journolist are a conspiracy as shown by their own words. They plotted to shift focus off the Rev. Wright story, not because Rev. Wright was not newsworthy but because they wanted Obama elected. That is a plot to do something wrong in the journalism profession. Others went so far as to try to get others to act together to call someone a racist, whether they were one or not to deflect attention. That is not just wrong but also evil.

In the end there is a left wing conspiracy of journalists, just not a criminal one, unlike Climategate which was proven by an office of the British Government (ICO) that there was a criminal conspiracy to break the UK’s Freedom of Information Act laws. So we need to call what the Journolist listserv what it really is: A group of left wing journalists formed into a conspiracy to shape the news to reflect their own personally held beliefs.

Oh and by the way for all you left wing loonies: Good Job you just proved what Rush Limbaugh has been saying now for decades was completely correct.

Travel Destination: Seattle

This is the post on the second stop on my vacation: Seattle

Seattle has some very nice attractions that doesn’t get much national attention, plus really good package deals on ticket prices.

The first day there we went down to the waterfront and I must say that Seattle has done a real nice job, its clean, friendly and easy to get to. It is also not far from the park area where the Space Needle is.

Our first stop was at the Seattle Aquarium where we purchased what is called the City Pass, which is a 6 attraction bundle at a much reduced price. Price for the City Pass is $59.00, separate admission to each attraction is $113.70 which is a savings of $54.70

This included not only the Aquarium but 2 rides to the top of the Space Needle in a 24 hr period, entrance to the Pacific Science Center which has many exhibits but also 2 IMAX theaters (one IMAX film per City Pass), One harbor tour by Argosy Cruises and entrance to Woodland Park Zoo. It also comes with what is called an optional ticket. What that ticket does is allow you entrance to either the The Museum of Flight 10 minutres from downtown or the Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame which is in the same area as the Space Needle and the Science Center.

The Aquarium has two indoor exhibit halls, plus an outdoor viewing area for their larger attractions such as the Harbor seals. This was a very nice aquarium with easy access and plenty to see with fish from all over the world as well as species that live near the Northwest coast.

From there we trekked to the Pacific Science Center. The trip is not far by foot but it is uphill from the Waterfront district. The reason that it is uphill is that modern day Seattle is built on the remains of the original Seattle that was destroyed by earthquake and fire. Some of the old parts of Seatlle still survive and you can take a tour of this “underground Seattle” (unfortunately time constraints prevented us from doing this). Once at the Science Center we caught a showing at one of their IMAX theaters and then walked among their exhibits. They are similar to OMSI in Portland but with less focus on technology.

From the Science Center we used out optional ticket and went into the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. As the Name implies it is devoted to SciFi and it sits in one half of the building with the Music Project in the other half. In it they chronicle the history and evolution of SciFi and they have many, many artifacts including one of the original models of the Enterprise and Captain Kirk’s Command Chair.

Also they have Tweekie from the show Buck Rodgers, the robot “dagget” from the original Battlestar Galatica, R2D2.

While there I had to get myself a “Dead Man Walking” T-shirt that has a Star Trek security guard with cross hairs imposed over him and that saying next to it. This is based on how many times, usually in the first minutes of the episode, a security guard gets killed. This in turn inspired the term Red-Shirting for when a SciFi author uses a real life person in one of their books and kills that character off.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Redshirt

From there it was a trip to the top of the Space Needle for a view of the greater Seattle area.

After that we took a trip via a monorail which runs from the Space Needle to downtown Seattle. Matter of fact the stop for the monorail downtown is inside a multistory shopping mall. We then headed back down to the waterfront which took us through Pike Place Market which is an attraction in its own right.

Once back at the Waterfront we ended the day with an hour long harbor cruise. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate so we weren’t able to see and take pictures of the Olympic montain range to the west of Seattle.

What we did see was a French Destroyer in for a port visit as well as the 2 heavy Ice Breakers the Coast Guard operates in for work.

On the second day we took the Lakes Cruise, also offered by Argosy Cruise lines. This cruise is 1.5 hours long and takes you past Husky Stadium and the University of Washington campus, plus the famous houseboat homes that have been featured in films as well as the Sleepless in Seattle community. You also got to see where the uber rich live including Bill Gates home as well as the natural beauty of the lake area. Also on clear days like this one you get a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier. We also got to see small ‘bush’ planes of a small airline that uses the lake as their landing zone.

From there we spent the rest of the day at Woodland Park Zoo as shown in the following pictures. One thing I couldn’t get a picture of was the Bald Eagles nest that was not the pair of Bald Eagles belonging to the Zoo. Turns out that there is a lot of crows that hang around this zoo and in turn they attracted a pair of wild Bald Eagles. Due to the abundance of food in the area they made a nest there.

The third day was a travel/visit Mt. Rainier day. We had planned on stopping at the Sunrise Visitors Center while traveling through Mt. Rainier National Forest but the road to it was closed due to having 6 feet of snow on it.

While we were traveling the roads through the mountains there you could really see how they affect weather patterns. On the west side there was rain all the way up to the crest of the mountains, that turned into fog and low lying clouds and that turned into clear skies by the time we exited the National Forest on the east side. Also just prior to entering the National Forest we saw 1 lonely Elk munching away no more then a foot to a foot and a half from the road.

Overall I wished we had planned one more day for Seattle for we had to forgo some nice attractions such as the Museum of Flight, Underground Seattle and a tour of the Boeing plant.

The next travel destination is Yellowstone.

From The Hypocrisy Department

I found this little gem thanks to the Small Dead Animals blog. It seems that there is a union that wants to protest and picket against someone that has hired a non union company to do some drywall for them. The grounds of this protest? The union claims that the non union company doesn’t pay a fair wage.

Now you are asking yourself what is Hypocritical about that unions have been doing that for a long time? Well I kept one little piece of information from that description. You see the union isn’t doing the picketing themselves. Nope the union contracted out to non union labor and is paying minium wage. Yes you read that correctly the union isn’t doing it themselves or having another union doing it for them, they are hiring people that are not in the union at minimum wage to picket for them.

You can read the article here:

To Protest Hiring of Nonunion Help, Union Hires Nonunion Pickets

Jobless Recruits Get Minimum Wage ‘To March Around and Sound Off’

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704288204575362763101099660.html?mod=WSJ_article_LatestHeadlines

Now the article statrs off on topic, but them wanders off a bit but comes back on at the end.

First what is the excuse for the union not doing their own picket?

“For a lot of our members, it’s really difficult to have them come out, either because of parking or something else,” explains Vincente Garcia, a union representative who is supervising the picketing.

I guess they never heard of taking the subway, the train or a bus to ease the parking problem or at least carpool. Really what it boils down to is that they can’t be bothered to do it themselves. Maybe its to hot out for them so they hired scab picketers.

Now you would think since you are picketing against some one not paying a fair wage you would pay your rent a picketer  one. Right? Nope mimimum wage for you scab picketer.

So instead, the union hires unemployed people at the minimum wage—$8.25 an hour—to walk picket lines.

Well at least you would think they would tell the Scab Picketers what it was all about. Right? Nope.

Mr. Raye says he’s grateful for the work, even though he’s not sure why he’s doing it. “I could care less,” he says. “I am being paid to march around and sound off.”

Well does the union see the hypocrisy in hiring Non union minimum wage Scabs to picket against a non union company? Nope.

The union’s Mr. Garcia sees no conflict in a union that insists on union labor hiring nonunion people to protest the hiring of nonunion labor.

He says the pickets are not only about “union issues” but also about fair wages and benefits for American workers. By hiring the unemployed, “we are also giving back to the community a bit,” he says.

So it’s not just about wages? I wonder what benefits package the non union scab picketers are getting from the union?

With crap like this I swear the Mayans just might be on to something with this 2012 crap. Seriously can you see any of the old time union members  that fought not just in alleyways with fists and clubs against comapny goon squads buy in some places pitched gun battles, ever hiring someone (especially non union) to walk the line for them? Jimmy Hoffa must be spinning in his Giant Stadium grave by now.

What A Coincidence!

Remember back in June how the Obama administration tried to doctor the recommendations from experts to make it look like they recommended the Drilling Moratorium that Obama wanted in the Gulf? Remember how a Judge struck it down back on June 22nd because of that? Now remember how everyone assumed that the reason that Obama and his administration did that was to placate the the Eco Loonies in the Democrat Party? Remember how before the ruling was struck down the media was reporting (at least Fox was) how the rigs that were already operating in the Gulf would be shut down and the oil companies would move those rigs somewhere else? Well what if the reason that Obama wanted to have the moratorium wasn’t to placate the eco-loonies, what if it was for something much easier to understand: Payback to a wealthy democrat donor (you know basic Chicago style politics)?

Well lets take a look at some astounding “coincidences” that surround the timing of the moratorium and some purchases of stock by a wealthy individual that just so happens to fund an “adviser” to President Obama.

First we need to go back to May 28, 2010. You see that was the date that the Moratorium was announced by the Interior department as seen in the court documents filed in the suit against it:

http://www.laed.uscourts.gov/GENERAL/Notices/10-1663_doc67.pdf

Now lets take a look at who advises the President:

John D. Podesta President and Chief Executive of the Center for American Progress as shown by that far right news organization the Washington Post:

http://www.whorunsgov.com/barack_obama_advisers

Now who funds and gives Mr. Podesta his marching orders? Well according to SourceWatch.Org one of those people is one George Soros:

The Center for American Progress is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The institute receives approximately $25 million per year in funding from a variety of sources, including individuals, foundations, and corporations. From 2003 to 2007, the center received about $15 million in grants from 58 foundations. Major individual donors include George Soros, Peter Lewis, Steve Bing, and Herbert M. Sandler. The Center receives undisclosed sums from corporate donors.[5]

Center for American Progress is funded in part by individuals who are members of the Democracy Alliance. In 2006, the Center for American Progress was given a three-year, $3,000,000 grant by George Soros’ Open Society Institute to be used for “general support”. [11]

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Center_for_American_Progress

Now that second paragraph in the quote is interesting. You see not only is Soros funneling money to this group through his Open Society Institute but also through the Democracy Alliance which he, George Soros, help found and is a member of:

A year after its founding, Democracy Alliance has followed up on its pledge to become a major power in the liberal movement. It has lavished millions on groups that have been willing to submit to its extensive screening process and its demands for secrecy.

These include the Center for American Progress, a think tank with an unabashed partisan edge, as well as Media Matters for America, which tracks what it sees as conservative bias in the news media. Several alliance donors are negotiating a major investment in Air America, a liberal talk-radio network.

Democracy Alliance was formed last year with major backing from billionaires such as financier George Soros and Colorado software entrepreneur Tim Gill.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/16/AR2006071600882_pf.html

Now why is that important? Simple. George Soros owns and manages a hedge fund and if you go and look you will see that Mr. Soros is heavily invested into Oil Companies such as Petrobras of Brazil. Matter of fact that is the #2 holding in his hedge fund. Matter of fact less then 2 weeks after the Ban was announced Mr. Soros’ Hedge Fund went and purchased even more Petrobras stock on June 9th

Increased Positions
NovaGold Resources (NG): Increased position size by 435.8% ~ we previously detailed this
DirecTV (DTV): Increased by 27.3%
Suncor Energy (SU): Increased by 22.4%
Cadence Design System (CDNS) Notes: Increased by 20%
Lawson Software (LWSN) Notes: Increased by 19.6%
Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR): Increased by 17.7%
Verizon (VZ): Increased by 16.7%

http://seekingalpha.com/article/209263-soros-is-bullish-on-petrobras-suncor-and-directv

Now ain’t that interesting one of the main advisers to the President just so happens to be majorly funded by George Soros and one of the consequences from the Administrations stance would be that Petrobras would be able to snap up some rigs on the cheap and make George a pile of money. But George wasn’t content on the amount of stock he had, he went and bought more. Notice also that Mr. Soros also increased his stake in the Canadian Oil Sands company Suncor at the same time. Notice that if you click that last link you get a more detailed list that shows what Mr. Soros not only increased his interest in but what is new, what he decreased in and what he dumped completely. Now in the dumped completely list is a company called Energy XXI. This company is an oil/gas exploration company that is listed as:

Since the company’s IPO in October 2005, Energy XXI has implemented an “acquire and exploit” growth strategy to build a geographically focused portfolio with some of the highest per-unit margins in the industry. The company has focused on developing the acquired properties while ramping up a complementary exploration program in the ultra-deep shelf where its first two attempts led to major successes at Davy Jones and Blackbeard. Energy XXI has completed four major acquisitions totaling approximately $1.4 billion, creating a company with more than 76 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) of proved reserves and about 28,000 BOE per day of production, 64% of which is oil. The company’s core properties are located on- and offshore Louisiana.

http://www.energyxxi.com/

Obama’s ban would put them out of business. Now lets move on to the decrease list and you will notice there an Oil company called Hess. The reason he didn’t drop it completely is that Hess has world wide operations but it has 100% interest in one deepwater well in the Gulf and it has a 20% interest along with Chevron (30%) and BP (50% and operates it) in another deepwater well, which will be hurt by the Obama plan.

http://www.hess.com/operations/default.aspx

Now notice that Mr. Soros is buying more stock in FOREIGN oil companies that have no ties to domestic US oil production, while at the same time he is dumping the stock in oil companies that do. Now why would he do that if Obama really meant he was going to break America’s dependence on “dirty oil” especially foreign oil. Simple really: Obama and George Soros know that sustainable, reliable and abundant “green” energy is a myth the US will be using oil for decades to come. Also they know that Obama most definitely will not reduce the US dependence on foreign oil with this drilling ban, matter of fact he will increase the dependence and Obama’s benefactor Mr. Soros will be there to make a nice chunk of change.
